Sol Y Viento: Not Your Average “Private Pool”

I spent a good five years in college studying biology in UPLB and during that time, we would always come to Pansol for spontaneous get aways or pool parties. Not a stranger to the highway hawkers flashing the ubiquitous “Private Pool” signs, I have a pretty good command of the Pansol area and its offering of resorts.

When Sol Y Viento invited us to the grand opening of their restaurant, Cafe Sabroso, I was in for a surprise. As our van entered the Pansol vicinity in Calamba, Laguna, it quickly made a turn and started a steady climb. I didn’t know that there were still resorts in the upper foothills of Mt. Makiling. We finally arrived at Sol Y Viento and I was immediately drawn to the superb view it had of Laguna De Bay. Because the resort is perched higher than most, if not all of the resorts in Pansol, it had an unmatched and commanding view. This was surely a sign of good things to come.

After relishing the view, one of the managers of the resort called for a golf cart to take us around the sprawling area. We were first taken to the cabanas and I must say, I was truly impressed. Made to resemble log cabins, the cabanas are built out of large wood slabs and together with its warm and thoughtful lighting, are really cozy. But what’s most interesting about these rooms was that each of them had it’s own sizeable jacuzzi. Taking advantage of the mountain’s naturally heated spring water, the jacuzzi beckons for a deeply relaxing and pleasurable experience with a loved one. I’m certainly coming back to Sol Y Viento just for this reason alone.

Back in the main complex of the resort, I found myself gawking at the pool area. Again, fed with natural hot spring water, the pool is flanked by the mighty of view of the bay, a lush forest and a tastefully constructed man-made waterfalls. This surely would be a hit for the young ones! And because the pool is open 24 hours, swimming doesn’t have to end when the sun sets. In the evening, the combination of the warm water and the cool mountain wind makes for a unique dip.

Finally, we were treated to dinner at the Cafe Sabroso and were served a delightful menu of classic Filipino food and a variety of fusion cuisine. With our tummies filled, we happily piled in the van knowing that surely this won’t be our last time at Sol Y Viento.
